Campus Biodiversity Network

About

The Campus Biodiversity Network (CBN) is an international network of colleges and universities founded at Vanier College and launched in 2022. Headed by teacher Katherine Collin, the CBN promotes campus greenspace observation and protection. More specifically, the network mobilizes educational institutions to promote awareness and conservation of local biodiversity, particularly within urban environments. Operating from a shared commitment to documenting and protecting campus wildlife, the CBN harnesses its ties to contribute to international research on urban biodiversity. At 46 partner institutions and counting, the growing network began from the belief that environmental protection efforts should begin in our own backyards.

CBN partners include:

  • Cégep de Saint-Laurent

  • Dawson College

  • McGill University

  • John Abbott College
  • Concordia University

  • Cégep du Vieux Montréal

CBN activities

We organize and host a number of activities on campus and throughout our network of partner institutions. These include:

  • Tracking biodiversity on campus using the iNaturalist app and informative panels
  • Hosting the annual City Nature Challenge in the Greater Montreal Area
  • Collaborating with local First Nations to engage youth
