Clarinet guide

Components

1) Scales and arpeggios: (to be played in two octaves)

  • C, F, G, Bb, D, Eb, A, E, & Ab  Major; A, D, E, G, B, & C  Harmonic Minor

2) Chromatic scale: to be played three octaves from low E to high E (Prepare all technical requirements both slurred and staccato)

3) Études: Any two contrasting études chosen from the following:

  • Endresen: Supplementary Studies for the Clarinet (ed. Rubank) - choose from #21, 29, 33-37
  • Rose: 32 Studies Book I (ed. Fischer or International)
  • Perier: Le Clarinettiste Débutant (ed. Leduc)
  • Hite: Melodious and Progressive Studies, Bk 1

4) Pieces: Two pieces to be chosen from the following:

  • Lancelot & Classens: La Clarinette classique, vol. C (ed. Combre or Leduc)
  • Christmann: Solos for the Clarinet Player (ed Schirmer)

5) Sight reading

  • To be given at the audition

Repertoire of an equivalent or higher level for Clarinet and Piano is encouraged (high school band parts are not acceptable).

You greatly improve your chances of acceptance when you prepare your audition requirements with the guidance of a qualified Clarinet teacher.
