Classical violin audition guide

Components

1) Scales and arpeggios

  • G & A major, b minor, with various bowings, three octaves

2) One Etude chosen by the applicant

3) Two contrasting pieces (memorization optional)

4) Sight reading (to be given)

Suggested minimum level

Etudes:

  • Sitt op.32, book 2
  • Kayser op. 20
  • Mazas op. 36, book 1 "Études Spéciales"

Repertoire:  

  • Accolay, Concerto in a minor, no. 1
  • Bach, Concerto in a minor, any movement
  • Vivaldi, Concerto in a minor, op. 3, no. 6, 1st or 3rd movement

Repertoire of an equivalent or more advanced level is encouraged.

You greatly improve your chances of acceptance when you prepare your audition requirements with the guidance of a qualified Violin teacher.
