Harp (classical) audition guide

Components

1) Technique: 

  • 3 note major and minor arpeggios, alternating hands over 4 octaves
  • Major and harmonic minor scales ‐ 2 octaves, separate hands (or an exercise using 4 fingers in each hand in progressive patterns)

2) Etude:

  • One Etude by Pozzoli (ex: from 65 Little Easy and Progressive Studies), Renie, or Kondonassis

3) Repertoire:

  • Two pieces of your choice – memorization is not necessary, but strongly encouraged.
  • Suggested repertoire level*: Thirty Little Classics for the Harp by Mildred Dilling Petite Suite Classique – Grandjany 

4) Sightreading:

  • A short sightreading of a suitable level will be given

*Repertoire of an equivalent or higher level is encouraged. The audition panel expects the candidate to have prepared their audition seriously and carefully with the guidance of a teacher.
