Avery Rueb Appointed Dean of Academic Development and Research

Vanier College Director General, John McMahon, is pleased to announce the appointment of Avery Rueb as Dean of Academic Development and Research.

Reporting to the Academic Dean, the Dean of Academic Development and Research plans, develops, organizes, administers, controls and evaluates all services under their responsibility. The Dean also collaborates in defining the academic, pedagogical and administrative orientations and objectives of the College, and works to achieve the objectives of Vanier’s Strategic Plan and Student Success Plan.

Avery Rueb has more than 25 years of experience in the educational sector, more than half of which have been at Vanier College as a Faculty member and Curriculum Coordinator of the French Department. Avery has always used his expertise in pedagogical innovation, research and academic management to foster academic excellence. “My goal is to bring amazingly fun and research-based learning experiences to help all students to fall in love with school and to become engaged citizens of the world,” says Avery. The various projects he has spearheaded, such as the Cegep Game Jam he founded and the transversal skills projects he initiated, attest to his passion for stimulating learning outside the classroom.

Avery Rueb holds a Masters of Business Administration from McGill University, a Masters in French from Middlebury College, VT and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH. He has designed several award-winning language learning games, given presentations on pedagogical research and innovation at various Canadian and American conferences, and published in international journals.

Avery’s engagement in research, teaching and innovation will be highly valuable in his new role as Dean of Academic Development and Research where he will doubtless contribute even more to supporting learning and student success. Avery Rueb’s new position will be effective as of August 13, 2024.
