Okanagan College wins Gold at the 2022 Scotiabank Vanier College Case Competition

Mr. John McMahon, Director General of Vanier College is pleased to announce that after full day of inspiring presentations at the Scotiabank Vanier College 2022 National Marketing Case Competition on March 5, 2022, the first place Gold Award went to Okanagan College from British Columbia. Congratulations to the Okanagan Team composed of students Brian Cresswell, Tamzin Birch, Cole Stegger and their Coaches Blair Baldwin and Mark Ziebarth. With a stellar presentation, Okanagan College repeated its past success and won Gold for two consecutive competitions.

The Silver Award went to Collège Edouard-Montpetit whose team consisted of Esteban St-Denis, Alexandra Bougie-McKenna, Simon Girard, and their coach Pascale Deschênes; while the Bronze Award went to Durham College composed of students Sydnie Smith, Elizabeth Wheeler, Hana Kennedy, Zach Jansen, and their coaches Sheldon Koufman and Jonathan Carrigan. Fourth Place honours went to Collège Ahuntsic with team members Ceïse Sadrach, Louis Sardou Amadéus, Éric Massson, Jaleel Althab Ahamed and their coach Jean-Luc Filiatreault.

During the weekend event, eleven teams of marketing students from colleges across Canada had three hours to analyze a real marketing case and present viable marketing solutions before a panel of expert judges. Long-time judge Dave Bussière, Associate Professor, Marketing, Odette School of Business, University of Windsor had this to say, “Because of COVID, this year’s teams did not have the same pre-competition training prior years had. But the quality of analysis and presentation was excellent and easily on par with other years.”

In addition to the student Awards, two Builder Awards were given to coaches who are long-time supporters of the Case competition. The recipients were Jean-Luc Filiatreault, the untiring coach of the team from Collège Ahuntsic, and Blair Baldwin, the coach of the Okanagan College Team

George Dracopoulos, the principal organizer of the Scotiabank Vanier College National Marketing Case Competition, was thrilled with this year’s competition. “It was exciting to see the passion and commitment of teams and their coaches. Coming together again after a full year break was nothing less than exhilarating.”
