Vanier’s Respiratory and Anaesthesia Technology program prepares students to evaluate, treat and care for patients of all ages suffering from breathing disorders.

In this program, students learn to collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide care for those facing breathing problems due to respiratory disease, heart disease, accidents or premature birth. They take courses in anatomy and physiology and learn the fundamentals of clinical respiratory care for various populations. Students also learn about a range of diseases and disorders and how to apply appropriate interventions using medical equipment.

This program is accredited according to national standards in respiratory therapy, permitting graduates to write the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care exam. As the only one of its kind offered in English in Quebec, Vanier’s RAT program is uniquely positioned to prepare students to work in a bilingual environment. Starting in their second year, students have the opportunity to work as “externes” in local hospitals, gaining valuable work experience to complement their studies. Moreover, many of our students are recruited as respiratory therapists or anaesthesia assistants by local hospitals before they graduate. Others find employment in community healthcare centres, home health agencies, and private and specialized clinics.

Why choose this program?

  • Prepare to work in the ER, operating rooms, intensive care units and pulmonary function testing
  • Participate in regular lab simulations alongside Nursing students
  • Apply your knowledge and skills to help those in need
  • Benefit from a 100% employment rate upon graduation
