Women's and Gender Studies Major

Vanier’s Women’s and Gender Studies (WGS) major develops students’ understanding of gender and sexuality and their role in modern society.
In this major, students analyze historical constructions of gender and sexuality and their influence on social relations. Through a combination of coursework and extra-curricular activities, students learn about the effects of gender norms and discrimination and the activist movements fighting for gender and sexual equality. Because gender is a core aspect of the human experience, this major is beneficial to students of virtually any program. Pre-university students gain a new perspective on their discipline while career students bring valuable knowledge and sensibility to their professions.
