How to apply

Continuing Education offers a variety of courses and programs for diverse learners. The application process varies depending on the type of training you are looking for.

Attestation (ACS) and Recognition of Acquired Competency (RAC) Programs

1. Attend an online information session

Info sessions are held online or in-person. During the session, you will hear from pedagogical counsellors about the program requirements and application process. You will also have the chance to ask questions any questions you may have.

2. Verify admission criteria and required documents

Verify the admission criteria of your Attestation or RAC program. Then, begin gathering and preparing the necessary documents for next steps. These can include documents such as:

  • An updated CV and/or letter of intent
  • Proof of schooling (High School or greater)
  • One of the following: Canadian birth certificate, citizenship card. Permanent Resident card, or Convention Refugee papers (with study visa) or Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ)
  • Medicare card
  • Language proficiency test results
  • Proof of employment in relevant sector
  • Criminal background check
  • Professional wallet-sized photo

Documents and transcripts written in a language other than English or French must be translated into English or French by a certified translator. Be sure to check the specific documents required by your program of choice.

3. Attend a selection interview and complete any qualifying tests (if applicable)

If you have completed steps 1 and 2, you may be invited to a selection interview. You will be asked to bring the requisite documents with you or provide them beforehand. Some programs requiring industry experience/qualifications may also require the completion of a qualifying test.

4. Register

Selected candidates will then be called to register. Details of the payment schedule and other registration requirements will be given at that time.

International Attestation programs

1. Verify admission criteria

See the specific admission requirements of your international attestation program of choice. These may include proof of equivalent schooling, relevant professional experience and proof of Language proficiency.

2. Apply on SRAM

Candidates must create an application on the SRAM website (Service régional d’admission du Montréal métropolitain) by the application deadline. The agent of your choice who represents Vanier College will be able to assist you with this process. Be sure to:

  • Apply as a Continuing Education Applicant
  • Choose the Comparative Evaluation of Previous Studies when prompted. This required evaluation compares your previous studies with Canadian equivalents.
  • Upload all necessary documents:
    • Birth certificate
    • Transcripts
    • Language proficiency test results
    • Letter of intent
    • Any existing immigration documents

An application fee of $80 to SRAM will be applicable. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Language requirements

While there are no French language requirements for admission, there are new French requirements from the Quebec government that students must meet by the end of their programs in order to graduate.

2. Acceptance and immigration documents

The SRAM website will display your acceptance status soon after you have applied, and Vanier Admissions will inform you of the status of your application shortly after.

All accepted candidates will be sent an official electronic Letter of Acceptance conditional on obtaining the following:

  • CAQ (Certificat d’acceptation du Québec)
  • Study Permit
  • Mandatory health insurance

Once accepted, please note that transfer to other programs at Vanier is not possible.

Deferrals

If necessary, students may request a deferral once to the following semester, for a non refundable deferral fee of $100.

The student or agent should make the request, in writing, to the International Coordinator and the Admissions office.

In unusual circumstances, Vanier will allow a deferral for all students (such as the recent COVID-19 health crisis) free of charge.

Diploma of College Studies (DCS)

Students, whether newly admitted or currently enrolled at Vanier College, who wish to pursue a Diploma of College Studies (DCS) through Continuing Education are encouraged to follow our detailed registration process.

It is essential to review the Important Dates section, which applies specifically to Continuing Education students enrolled in credit programs and courses. Staying informed about key deadlines will ensure a smooth registration experience.

Personal and Professional Development (PPD) and Certificate programs

While these programs do not have an application process, many require that candidates meet certain eligibility criteria or a target profile. PPD courses that are subsidized by Services Québec have an additional set of requirements. Successfully registering for these programs does not guarantee admission. See the requirements specific to your PPD program or certificate program of choice.

Language School courses

Anyone can register in a part-time Language School course (no application required). International students taking full-time courses must first ensure they meet the visa requirements.

Language level evaluations

Once registered for a language course, students will be asked to complete a level evaluation. The evaluation is typically composed of written and oral components, although it differs based on whether the course is full-time or part-time. See your course of interest for specific instructions and deadlines.
