This course equips participants with the foundational knowledge needed to find employment as a non-qualified daycare educators.

As part of a governmental initiative to reduce the current staffing shortages in daycares, this non-credit course prepares individuals without prior experience to work with children 0-5 years old. After completing this course, participants may enter the job market as "non qualified" educators and/or continue their studies in Early Childhood Education. Designed as an initiation into the field, this course details the skill sets and daily activities of an early childhood educator. Topics covered include: 

  • Understanding the profession (6 hours)
  • Health, well-being and safety in a childcare centre (33 hours)
  • Understanding educational programming and approaches (31 hours)
  • Child welfare and prevention (12 hours)
  • CPR (8 hours)
